Headed home

Thursday, I started my journey home.

I walked out of Chatham Grove ES for the last time as a school employee, got in my car and headed towards I-40 to trek west. To truly start my life with Al.

The plan was for me to meet the Cowboy in Knoxville. He picked up the trailer and got it loaded while I was at school. He left hours before me, but a wreck on 40 near Asheville caused a wildfire that had him stuck and me redirected on a long and windy road. Out of communication most of the time, I ended up three short miles ahead by the time I re-joined I-40 waiting for him at a rest stop

We stopped to see my nieces. Left my car. Enjoyed a time to catch up. Visited with Al’s youngest son and his precious family.

North Carolina

Tennessee

Arkansas

Three days, three states.

Missouri

Kansas

Colorado

Five days, now six states.

Driving an RV. Hauling a trailer. A small trailer with everything I now own.

Wedding plans, state mottos and nicknames, design the perfect city. The country we would live in if that ever struck out fancy, world politics, children and grandchildren. A misunderstanding, a way too long period of silence, tears, clarity, forgiveness, prayer, moving forward with renewed vigor and commitment. Sore joints from sitting too long, restless sleeping, Progresso soup in mugs. Walks that were never long enough.

Yampa is in sight.

This is the journey home.

  3. I love how you paint pictures with your words. Going from city life to ranch life is a huge step. But, knowing your ability to do what is right for you, your faith in God and the knowledge He will be with you during this transition and beyond, and now meeting your wonderful Al, I know this is the perfect move for you. Welcome home. ❤️ (wg)
