Will you?

Thursday.

Thursday will be special. How special, I can only guess. The instructions were, Wear black. Dress for a nice night out. Be ready for 6:00.

We pull into The Umstead. We walk to Herons. It’s obvious Allen has already been there. The staff is very kind. There are lots of smiles and winks.

We order wine. And then. And then some packages arrive.

The first is a cup with a picture of Allen and I drinking coffee from another amazing event. The words are significant. “My cup of tea.” One of the first things I said to him. If I’m not your cup of tea . . . But I am.

I turn the cup around, and it asks the question I’ve been waiting to hear. Expecting, but still waiting. Anticipating.

Will you marry me? Will you spend the rest of your life by my side? Will you cherish me, love me, travel with me, plan with me, partner with me?

Will you . . .

I knew from the first kiss.

Yes.
