Adventure
Today is the first Saturday of summer.
Well, not quite, but close enough summer can be tasted. It reminds me of standing in line at the Dairy Queen as a child watching them fill a cone with soft serve. Almost in my hand.
Summer provides time with an abundance of calm. Time with opportunities to finish the undone and start the new. Time provides the space to do absolutely nothing with little or no guilt. With summer the days are long, and we soak in the sun. Refreshed and lazy. Rain moves from the dreary veil it offered in winter to a different kind of refreshed and lazy.
Summer is a time to ponder both the substantial and mundane. It’s a time to play, take action, reflect. Heal.
I woke up this morning thinking of Abraham and God’s command to him way back when he was still Abram. “Go to the land I’ll show you.” (Bitsy’s paraphrase) Adventure waiting to happen. And to top it all off, Abram was 75 years old when he started on this journey. Even in deep maturity, adventure can be found.
Summer and adventure. What an fascinating combination of words.
