Tuesday

At the time, I thought Tuesday was the worst day of my life. But in so many ways, it was a wonderful day. So much care was given to Ron, Brandon, Joe, and me.

Shirlean, our wonderful hospice nurse, got Ron ready for the funeral home to pick him up. She spoke to him the entire time. The boys and I got to say goodbye in a way we never would have it he'd been at the hospital instead of home. She told me that morning that she was not supposed to be with us this week, but she asked to stay with us as she felt the end was near. I'm so glad she did!

Knotts Funeral Home. Brandon had made a list of funeral homes for us to visit. Tuesday was the day! We had to pick one and give the name to Shirlean. We went with Knotts. They too were amazingly kind and respectful.

Barrett Freeman. Pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Barrett arrived pretty quickly and spent the morning with us. He prayed with us, he talked with us, he fed us.

Abby, Katie, and Erin who were there as soon as the school day was over. Dr. Savage, who arrived not long after.

Merilee, Cathy, and Sara. Who called and texted throughout the day.

Cindy and Sharon who were waiting for me to call and tell them I needed them to help me.

A thoroughly rotten day in so many ways. A completely wonderful day in so many others.
